Lockout/Tagout

The OSHA standard for lockout/tagout basically specifies that, when maintenance is being performed on equipment, it should be shut down, isolated from it's power source and that the accidental release of energy should be prevented. Where lockout/tagout is not implemented tragic and often fatal accidents can occur, especially given that employees are often in a vulnerable position when performing machine maintenance.
